Escaping the cabin was never the same thing as escaping Sydnee.

About the book

Madison has survived years inside Sydnee’s world, but survival has changed her. The researcher who once fought desperately against an incomprehensible force has endured physical and psychological transformation on a scale nobody outside the cabin could understand.

Denise has escaped the cabin, yet freedom comes with conditions she never agreed to. Sydnee’s influence follows her beyond the cabin, intruding on her body, her sleep and even the most ordinary choices in her life.

Meanwhile, Noah’s marriage has become another part of Sydnee’s design. She understands the attraction between Noah and Denise, understands exactly what each has denied themselves, and intends to use those desires as fuel for an escape plan that has been building for far longer than any of them realise.

The McKenzie Grove Incident is where private manipulation threatens to become public catastrophe, and where Denise has to decide whether anything remains that Sydnee cannot reach.

Character, pressure and choice

The tension at the centre

Noah’s sacrifice gives Denise what she wanted most: a way out. The problem is that Sydnee never truly lets her go.

Breaking the lingering supernatural connection is now part of any attempt to rescue the others. Denise has to act while Sydnee can still invade her thoughts, disrupt her body and make it difficult to trust her own decisions.

Denise now has to do more than save herself. Madison may still be reachable, Noah is becoming increasingly entangled in Sydnee’s plan, and the feelings Denise has spent years suppressing threaten to become another weapon in the entity’s hands. Escaping once was difficult enough. Breaking the connection completely may be something else entirely.

At the centre

Two women. One connection that refuses to break.

Freedom and entanglement

Denise

Denise can no longer take even her most private moments for granted. Disrupted sleep, intrusive sensations and doubt about her own choices have made the life she returned to feel unfamiliar. She has to recover confidence in herself while Sydnee keeps testing how much of it remains.

Escape and domination

Sydnee

After years of preparation, Sydnee stands on the brink of achieving what confinement was supposed to make impossible. Madison has been transformed, Denise remains connected to her and Noah possesses exactly the strength and desire her plan requires. Freedom is finally close, and Sydnee already knows whose life she intends to visit first.

Why read The McKenzie Grove Incident?

For the moment Sydnee’s private erotic game threatens to become everyone else’s problem.

The McKenzie Grove Incident reveals the scale of Sydnee’s plan for Madison, Denise and Noah, and how thoroughly she intends to exploit every attraction they tried to suppress. The connection makes Denise part of the struggle over Sydnee’s future, in which Noah’s deepest fantasies, Denise’s most forbidden desires and the destruction of his marriage all become pieces of the same design. Beyond them lies the larger question: what happens when something this powerful finally reaches a world with no idea it exists?
