Information processed

Hosting and security infrastructure may process basic technical information when you visit, such as IP or network information, browser or device information, requested URLs and security logs. The information processed depends on the service configuration.

If you email Bret Vautour, your correspondence contains your email address and the information you choose to provide.

How information is used

Information is used to operate and secure the website, maintain the service and respond to enquiries.

Analytics

This site uses Google Analytics 4 only when you choose to allow analytics. Analytics is used to understand how readers navigate the site, which pages and books attract attention, and whether visitors follow links to external retailers. Analytics is not used for advertising or profiling. Cloudflare Web Analytics is disabled.

Cookies and browser storage

Analytics is off by default. Google Analytics loads and may set analytics cookies only after you accept analytics. A single preference in local storage remembers whether you granted or denied consent until you change it or clear your browser storage. You can change your choice using Cookie settings. Rejecting analytics after accepting it removes the site’s Google Analytics cookies and reloads the page to stop measurement. Technical cookies or storage may be used by infrastructure services where needed to deliver or protect the website.

Hosting and service providers

Cloudflare provides the site's DNS, Cloudflare Pages hosting, content delivery and security infrastructure, according to the launch configuration. These services may process technical request information. Email correspondence is handled through Gmail. Service providers operate under their own applicable terms and privacy arrangements.

External links

Links to Amazon, Goodreads, social profiles and other external destinations take you to separate services with their own privacy practices. Bret Vautour does not control those services.

Retention

Correspondence is kept only for as long as reasonably necessary to deal with the enquiry and any related follow-up.

Retention of infrastructure and security information may depend on the relevant service provider and operational or security needs.

Rights and questions

You may have rights under applicable data-protection law. To ask a privacy question or raise a concern, contact The Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) is the UK supervisory authority for data protection and accepts privacy complaints.

Updates

This notice will be updated if the site's services or privacy arrangements change.
